What is Kirtan?
Kirtan is the practice of call and response chanting. It is a form of Bhakti Yoga- the yoga of devotion. The root of Bhakti is bhaj- to share or to love. The leader calls out a mantra (often in Sanskrit, the language of yoga), and the group calls back. Through repetition of these sacred sounds, we focus our mind, and co-create what is sometimes called the bhav, or ‘divine mood.’
Kirtan can be an opportunity to tap into your voice, create and feel vibrations in your body, dance, or simply go inward.
